Emergency Operations Coordinator, Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services
Mary Jo Flynn is the Emergency Operations Coordinator for Sacramento County Office of Emergency Services where she is responsible for: training, exercises, planning coordination, technology, and social media. She has worked in Emergency Management and related roles since 2005 in addition to roles in: Legislative & External Affairs; Recreation and Volunteer Management; and Film and Television Development.
Ms. Flynn has an MS from CSU Long Beach in Recreation Administration, and a BA from CSU Fullerton in English Literature. She currently holds a Certified Emergency Manager (CEM) credential through the International Association of Emergency Managers (IAEM) and served as the Chair of the Emerging Technology Caucus from 2013-2015. Additionally, she served as the Chair on the Homeland Security, Science and Technology Directorate from2014-2016 on the Social Media Working Group (SMWG) and is a consultant/instructor with the National Disaster Preparedness Training Center(NDPTC) specializing in social media education for emergency managers.
Her background includes a variety of leadership level experiences: coordinating planning documents; regional exercises; customized training; and since 2009, supervising a department social media program. Disaster response experience includes: major flooding, Presidential visits; civil unrest; urban interface wildfires and much more.
