Reno, Nevada – March 18, 2015 – Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve will deliver welcome remarks to kick off the nation’s first social media conference for state and local government agencies on Thursday, April 30, 2015, at the Atlantis Resort in Reno, Nevada.
Speakers from Facebook, Google, and other major platforms will connect with government social media managers at the event, the 2015 Government Social Media Conference & Expo (GSMCON).
“It is my privilege and honor to participate in the groundbreaking 2015 Government Social Media Conference & Expo,” Reno Mayor Hillary Schieve says. “I look forward to welcoming hundreds of government employees and representatives of major social platforms to The Biggest Little City. At the City of Reno, we pride ourselves on being a government that encourages citizen input and engagement, and in that respect we will continue to advocate for social media as a critical component of our City’s communications strategy.”
A Reno-based company, Government Social Media LLC, organized the inaugural event to provide a training and collaborative experience for government. “There currently isn’t a strong network for state and local government social media managers to learn about best practices and what’s working well for other agencies on social media. We want to change that,” says Conference Director Kristy Dalton.
GSMCON will host 300 attendees from government agencies all over the country and features a mix of over 30 industry and government speakers. Registration is currently underway for the event, which will be held April 29-May 1, 2015, at the Atlantis Resort in Reno, Nevada.
