As the social media and communications analyst for the County of San Luis Obispo’s Administrative Office, Whitney is responsible for planning, coordinating and assisting in countywide marketing and branding efforts. She coordinates with internal and external leaders and 24 departments to develop and implement a relevant marketing communications plan.
Since joining the County, she has been instrumental in developing strategies to increase social media engagement, local news media coverage and overall brand awareness for the County of San Luis Obispo.
Prior to joining the County of San Luis Obispo in August 2014, Whitney worked for three years as a digital strategist at Verdin, a marketing and public relations agency, where she cut her teeth in public relations planning and implementation for government agencies. Prior to that, she worked as the director of new media and communications for the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce, working with a variety of businesses, nonprofit organizations and government agencies to manage a variety of projects, produce quality communications materials, and reach their overall goals by telling their unique stories in meaningful and compelling ways.
Whitney earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, where she currently teaches a course in public relations writing and editing.
She was named one of the Top 20 Under 40 in San Luis Obispo County by The Tribune in 2014 and currently serves as chair of the County’s Social Media Committee, vice president of Board of Directors for the Child Development Resource Center of the Central Coast, and member of the Board of Directors for Leadership San Luis Obispo.
