Captain Zach Perron is the public affairs manager for the Palo Alto Police Department. He is the General Vice Chair of the PIO section of the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP) and is a member of the GSMO Advisory Council. He is a member of the US. Department of Homeland Security’s Virtual Social Media Working Group (VSMWG).
Zach was a 2014 visiting fellow at IACP in Alexandria, Virginia, where he worked on national-level initiatives in their Center for Social Media. He speaks regularly at conferences on the topics of social media and public affairs, and has authored articles in national publications (including The Police Chief and Law Officer) on those topics as well. He has an undergraduate degree from Stanford University and is now pursuing a graduate education at the Naval Postgraduate School’s Center for Homeland Defense and Security in Monterey, California, where his master’s thesis is entitled “Two-Way Engagement on Twitter for Law Enforcement and Its Effect on Followership.” You can follow him on Twitter: @zpPAPD.
